Kerrie Reeder has been involved with the dog world since she was a young child, commencing when her family purchased a Staffordshire Bull terrier in 1967. This bitch was campaigned to her title, provided a foundation for the very successful Gamester prefix and helped put the breed on the map in Australia where Staffords were still a minority breed. Encouraged by winning the junior handlers class at the Staffordshire
Bull Terrier Society of NSW Inc’s 1969 Championship Show, Kerrie became
involved with a breed and a club which would become the dedication of the Reeder
family for over three decades.
Kerrie has held such positions as Secretary of the Staffordshire Bull
Terrier Society of NSW Inc, to which she was elected at the age of 18, as well
as Assistant Treasurer, Editor of ‘The Stafford News’ and club
Vice-President for the past 9 years and now with the passing of her mother,
Yvonne Reeder, President. Kerrie has worked extensively within the dog world at large, helping to
establish the Junior Kennel Club of NSW in 1980 and working for the Royal
Agricultural Society of NSW and the Spring Fair Dog Show.
Kerrie was also a committee member of the North of the Harbour All Breeds
Dog Club for several years during the 1980’s. |

One of Kerrie’s most significant achievements in the administration
side of the dog world was working with the late great Dr Harry Spira in the
formation of the Australian Breeds Dog Club – bringing together the Australian
Terrier, Australian Silky Terrier, Australian Cattle Dog, the Stumpy Tail Cattle
Dog and the Border Collie. Kerrie
also developed and organised several breed specialist seminars for the Royal
Agricultural Society of NSW Inc, most notably A Night With Richard Beauchamp
– The Bichon Frise. Kerrie is also actively involved with the RNSWCC Judges Training Scheme,
assisting aspirant judges with their interpretation of the Staffordshire Bull
Terrier breed standard and is now an accredited Judges Training Assessor for the
Australian National Kennel Council. She
is also a Committee member of the Business Development and Finance Committee of
the Royal NSW Canine Council and a member of the Breeds Standard Committee. Kerrie obtained her licence to judge Staffordshire Bull Terriers in
1981, going on to obtain approval for all Terrier breeds and group specials in
1993. Kerrie’s judging
experiences have taken her all around the globe, including: The Staffordshire Bull Terrier Society of NSW
Inc’s 1989 Championship Show, The Sporting Terrier Club of Queensland
Championship Show (obtaining a record breed entry with Best of Breed going on to
take Best in Show), the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of Queensland Inc
Championship Show, the prestigious Frankston and Penninsula Kennel Club in
Victoria, Rotorua Kennel Club in New Zealand and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Club of Natal 1996 Championship Show in South Africa, Darlington Dog Show
Society (England) Championship Show (Stafford dogs & bitches) 2005 and the
Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club Inc (USA) 2005 National Specialty Championship
Show, World Terrier Show Sweden 2008. Having visited many countries around the world to appreciate
Staffords,
Kerrie has had the great fortune of visiting top breeders in the U.K., the
U.S.A., and in Europe. Kerrie has
visited with and discussed the breed with Stafford experts and pioneers,
including Horace Priest, Gerald Dudley (Wychbury), Alec Waters (Ashstock), Doris
Hughes-Williams (Linksbury) and Judi Daniels (Starzend).
In 1978, Kerrie stewarded for Eddie Williams (Weneva) at the Welsh Kennel
Club Championship Show. Kerrie is one of three generations of Stafford specialist judges and
along with her family has imported many U.K. and New Zealand Staffords that have
become legends in the breed, as well as pioneering the use of imported frozen
semen in the breed in this country. Kerrie
has dedicated almost her lifetime to the betterment and protection of the
Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
